How To Apply For Your Schengen Visa From Nigeria

Have you ever dreamed of taking a tour around Europe, say from Paris to Milan and make a quick stop at Barcelona before rounding it up in Santorini? You would need an all-inclusive travel document that would enable you to take this trip without immigration hassles. In this blog post, you will learn what this document is about and how you can apply for it.

A Schengen visa is a travel document that allows free travel within selected countries of Europe. If you have tours or business in multiple locations in Europe at a time, you would not need to apply to these embassies for visas and you can easily take a short flight or train ride to move between them. There are different types of Schengen visas and most travelers will apply for a short stay visit, which is valid for 90 days.

To apply, you will need to obtain all of the following documents. Without getting all of these documents ready at first instance, the process will be delayed so it is best to get everything together at once.

  • A completed Schengen application form
  • Valid passport (with 2 consecutive clean pages) and a full-colour copy of data page
  • Two passport photos
  • Bank statements for the last three months
  • Bank details
  • Confirmed hotel reservations in your choice of country
  • Medical Insurance
  • Confirmed round trip flight reservation
  • Evidence of a need to return back to Nigeria (letter from employer, etc)
  • Colour copies of all previous Schengen visas (if applicable)
  • Employment details of the last three months

Considering the length of time it takes to complete the application process, it is best not to wait until your travel date is close before applying. The process, depending on the country, can take as long as 3months so it’s best to start applying as quickly as possible.

Firstly, you will need to download your Schengen visa application form, print it out and complete it. Once completed, submit it with other required documents to the country’s embassy you intend to visit. If you’re planning on visiting more than one country, apply at the country’s consulate/embassy that you’ll be spending the majority of your time in.
Alternatively, if you’re planning on spending an equal amount of time in each of these countries, then you must apply for your Schengen visa with the country that you’ll visit first.

Currently, VFS Global in Lekki has been appointed by the Schengen embassies to handle and oversee all Schengen visa applications from Nigeria so this would be an easier alternative to use. Please note that you will still need to appear in person at the embassy of your chosen country to visit. If your application has been successful, You will, as part of the process, have your in-person interview and biometric fingerprints taken at the embassy.
